This porch has stories to tell...
Past, present, and future, I've laid down my guitar to create a movement. Peace from the Porch. In 2004, we summed up four years of Bear Creek Concerts and independent music and the community it creates with "Peace from the Porch, Vol.1" We raised money for the American Cancer Society. 2006 brought forth "Peace from the Porch, Vol. 2." The best in independent music sat on this porch with me, and talked about domestic violence and how to stop it, and we asked you to join us in making a difference. In the fall of 2007, we gathered books and money in an effort to help literacy programs. A small town library put a sidewalk paver stone along the pathway to their front door in our honor because we cared enough to reach out to a neighbor who is taking on rural illiteracy. In 2008, we moved the conversation toward ways to help stop one of our greatest sufferings - hunger. Every Bear Creek Concert in the 2008 season was a chance to raise funds and collect food for grassroots food banks. As our economy continues to worsen, and the chasm between rich and poor widens, with the working class struggling to survive, it became imperative that we come together as a community and do our part to make sure that our neighbors and our neighbor's children never go to bed hungry. In 2009, we will support community animal rescue organizations and animal shelters. So come on up! Join us on the porch. Whether raising money, collecting goods and supplies or simply raising your consciousness, everything we do, we do with one of the most basic tools for human success - compassion. Let the spirit of independent music infect you and inspire you to become a porch dweller.
